ZATO and its members joined a special heritage walk at the Sultan Palace Cemetery in Forodhani, a journey through history that deepened our appreciation for the island’s rich cultural heritage, uncovering history of the past and honoring royal legacies

This resting place holds the graves of several Sultans of Zanzibar and members of the royal family who once ruled over the Isles.
Walking through this peaceful cemetery, you are not just visiting a burial ground, you are stepping into a deep chapter of Zanzibar’s Swahili-Arab history. The tombstones, though weathered by time, whisper stories of royal power, cultural transitions, and the once-glorious Sultanate era.
